A lively meeting

This year’s Annual General Meeting at the Hydro Hotel on Tuesday, 14th April, produced some lively discussions about the future of Anderida Writers and what it could do for its members.

The business side of the meeting finished with the presentation of the Anderida Accolade for outstanding work and contribution to Anderida Writers. The award went to Rob Crouch for his part in creating the new website and helping to streamline procedures. Rob thanked his wife for her part in building the website.

Improving your writing

Chairman Tony Flood introduced tips from Patrick Walsh, the founder of Publishing Push. Patrick revealed the red flags and critical mistakes that writers should avoid in the opening pages of their work.

New Anderida Writers Facebook Group

Rob Crouch outlined plans to for a new group to encourage debate and engagement about all aspects of writing, including publishing and marketing. This will help spread good practices, news, and information to benefit everyone involved.

Those present supported the idea. Once we’ve agreed rules for conduct and use, we’ll set up the group on Facebook.

Ideas to Improve Anderida Writers

A lively debate then followed on the future of Anderida Writers and how it could better help its members in the future.

Those present wanted fewer speakers during the year.

They also wanted more time for discussing and commenting on each other’s writing.

Those present agreed to having two smaller discussion groups, each with a team leader, who would note down the main points and elements raised. To benefit everyone, the leaders would then raise and discuss these items during a workshop session in the second half of the meeting.

The first of these discussion groups/workshops will take place at the next meeting on 12th May 2026.

The next meeting at the Hydro Hotel on 12th May 2026 will be a discussion and critiquing session,
followed by a workshop to learn from the key issues raised.

So come prepared with what you want to read, and a notepad and pen. It promises to be an interesting meeting.
